Odisha is positioning itself as a major hub for the garments
and textile industry, with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Ma
jhi announcing fresh investments and large-scale employment
generation in the sector.
The announcement came during the inauguration of a new
apparel manufacturing unit by Page Industries at Ramdaspur in
Cuttack district. The facility, built with an investment of Rs 750
crore, has already generated over 5,800 jobs.
In addition, the company has laid the foundation for another unit
in Bhubaneswar with an investment of Rs 258 crore, expected to
create around 3,500 jobs. The Chief Minister also laid the
foundation stone for a textile plant by MAS India Clothing Pvt Ltd
in the state capital. Emphasising the employment potential of the
sector, Majhi said the textile and garment industry requires
relatively lower capital investment while generating significant
employment, particularly for women. He added that the state government is committed to expanding apparel manufacturing
across multiple districts.
Large-scale textile investments are already taking shape in
districts such as Cuttack, Khordha, and Ganjam. The state had
received textile investment proposals worth nearly Rs 7,800
crore last year, which are currently under implementation.
Describing the developments as a ‘golden chapter’ in Odisha’s
industrial growth, the Chief Minister noted that projects worth
around Rs 41,000 crore have been inaugurated in Khordha
district alone. He reiterated the state’s ambition to emerge as the
‘Surat or Tiruppur of Eastern India,’ referring to established
textile hubs such as Surat and Tiruppur.
To attract investors, the state is offering plug-and-play
infrastructure, including land, electricity, water, and transport
facilities. The textile sector is projected to attract investments of
Rs 7,212 crore and generate up to 40,000 jobs.
State Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain highlighted
that industrial expansion would support MSME growth and
create employment opportunities for local youth.
Textiles and Handloom Minister Pradeep Bal Samant said the
sector is entering a transformative phase, reinforcing Odisha’s
emergence as a key manufacturing destination.
